Yap, also known as Wa'ab for locals, is an island in the Caroline Islands of the western Pacific Ocean. It is a state of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is a very tropical island. Stop number three on my travels. this was a very interesting island. all over the island there are these round stones called rai stones that used to be a form of currency for the locals carved out of lime stone. Back when they first discovered lime stone it was as valuable as gold is to modern society. they were used as currencies and dowries. very rarely are the stones moved but rather they are left in place and the owner of the stone changes over time. there wasn't a whole lot to do while in yap, this place was more of a "on-the-way" kind of place, a neat place to go on the way to wherever you're going. During my short time here i didn't do much other than go exploring. i came across some very old shrines pre dating the come of white men. and i found more world war two wreckage. Those Japanese were very thorough in their invasion of the south pacific, plus they weren't very good at cleaning up their messes.

Stop number 2 on my travels through various pacific island chains. Sumatra is an island in western Indonesia, westernmost of the Sunda Islands. It is the largest island entirely in Indonesia (two larger islands, Borneo and New Guinea, are shared between Indonesia and other countries), and the sixth largest island in the world. During my travels through sumatra i was able to visit the mentawai islands and visit with the locals. most of them spoke pretty decent english, so there wasnt much of a language barrier. most of them were very friendly, others seemed angry all the time. non the less the mentawai islands were very beautiful.

stop number 2 in sumatra was Bukittinggi. Bukittinggi is located on a hill and nestled among majestic mountains, green plantations and rice terraces. It happens to be one of the friendliest towns in Sumatra. its very modernized and the people didnt hold back when i asked for directions. the hotels were very clean and comfortable. this is where i will be departing from to go to the Micronesian island of Yap. stop number 3 on my south/north pacific travels.

Jawa is a small island related to the greater sunda islands archipelago. Local population 124 million people. Java lies between sumatra and bali, and is north of christmas island. java is also the 13th largest island in the world. Java is a volcanic island compiled of 32 mountains on the island that were all at one point volcanoes. I will be staying at a local bed and breakfast in the town of Yogyakarta located near the coast towards the center of the island.
during my travels through java i visited some of the populated cities and a lot of the active volcanic areas of the island, many of which closely resemble the U.S.'s Yellowstone National Park.
